Glide UK is a service that could save you a large amount of hassle. However, lots of tenants can manage their own bills very well and actually pay less over the same period by being sensible with their energy usage.

Its important to remember as a Tenant that the energy in your Glide account is NOT all-inclusive or unlimited, so its crucial that you are sensible about your energy consumption.

If bills are included within your Tenancy Agreement, the following Fair usage policy will apply to you. This is to ensure that that your energy and water usage is not excessive and kept within reasonable and sensible limits. It’s worth noting that the allowances are designed to be accurate based on your property size and if you are sensible with your energy consumption, it is unlikely that you will exceed these limits.

Our TOP TIP is that at any time during your tenancy you can check your usage against your allowances by taking a gas and electric meter reading and contacting Glide using phone 0333 666 5555 or email glide@glide.uk.com.

You’ll probably be using a lot more gas and electric during the winter so bear this in mind, but checking your usage is a proactive step to ensuring that you do not go over your fair usage limits.

Please note that if you do use excessive amounts of energy, then the over usage could be deducted from your tenancy deposit at the end of the tenancy.

We’ve also had a little brainstorming session and have come up with some useful energy saving tips which will help keep your energy usage under control !

  • Run your heating for just one hour less every day. For most boilers, you can adjust the length of time that they are turned on for. An hour less in the morning or evening could significantly reduce your energy bill.
  • Keep your curtains closed when it is dark. You lose a lot of heating energy through your windows, even with double glazing. If you close your curtains more often this will keep the heat in.
  • Turn off electrical equipment at the Plug. If you leave many electrical appliances on standby rather than turned-off at the plug socket you will use more energy.
  • We recommend running washing machines on full loads to increase efficiency and if possible avoid using a dryer for items that could be hung dried.
  • If you are boiling your kettle, only fill it for the water you need at the time. It requires lots of energy to boil a kettle and if you only fill it up to a level required this energy saving quickly builds up throughout the year.

Hope this helps!
