1. There is a, perhaps better known, Sukhothai (named after an area north of Bangkok) in Headingley, but the one in Chapel Allerton is the original, and many would argue, the best. Others still would argue that this is the best place for Thai food anywhere in Leeds It also happens to be the only Thai restaurant recommended by The Good Food Guide in all of Yorkshire. The Times went one further, putting it in the top 10 in the UK. You’ve got to ask yourself, can so many be wrong? Of course they can! After all, there are 50 million Elvis fans. But fear not, in this instance they are right; Sukhothai is quality. Go there for a birthday and experience the indescribable spectacle you will be met with.

2. There was once a popular bar and restaurant in Chapel Allerton called The Angels Share. As inferred, this place is no more. Opening in its place in June 2011, The Hummingbird Kitchen & Bar. Unlike its predecessor, The Hummingbird puts its emphasis on food, and fortunately, it does food very well and doesn’t cost a fortune. Everything about the design of the place spews class; it looks set to become a modern classic of Chapel Allerton.

3. Professional accommodation in Chapel Allerton is targeted by the young because it is a village of modern pleasures; The Mustard Pot is a welcome throwback. Parts of it apparently date back to the 17th century. Some say the name derives from past connections with the Colman’s. With soft lighting and soft furnishings, this pub gives off an aura off relaxation and homeliness. It serves good food and a good pint. Lovely.

4. One of the best things about the property to rent in Chapel Allerton is all the greenery it is surrounded by. Typical conditions of city living are not conducive to dancing gaily through open meadows, breathing in fresh air, and merrily slurping clear spring water, but at least in Chapel Allerton you’ve got Gledhow Woods. Take the time to go marching off into this (partly) ancient woodland and you will likely forget that you are, in fact, still in Leeds.

5. One struggles to give a description of the Seven Arts Centre, not because it warps in and out of linear existence, splicing itself over multiple dimensions, and fusing with the straggling threads that dangle from the fabric of reality, but because your experience of it depends on what’s happening on a given night. Although, it’s usually good. Food, drinks, and theatre? Food, drinks, and jazz? Food, drinks, and poetry? Food, drinks, and a film? It’s a bar, a restaurant, a café, and an arts space, and it does them all very well. The place is a stroke of genius.
