HOP completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks!

Some of the amazing HOP team took on a pledge to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks, located in the Dales, on Friday 15^th April 2022 to raise money for two incredible charities, Ukraine Charity and Leeds Mind. The hike took the team on a 24.5 mile stretch reaching ascents of 5,300ft, all in under 12 hours.

We did it! But it wasn’t easy…

Having left our Horsforth branch at 5:15am, we started our 24.5 mile hike at 7:15am from the bottom of Pen-y-ghent at Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Walking boots tied, back packs on, we started the climb. The first peak took just over 1 hour and was certainly one of the hardest of the three. The incline was constant and immediate, whilst the last 2k took its toll as we scrambled to the top. Summiting at approximately 8:30am the pitstop at the peak was well received. An amazing achievement already for most! Together we started the long and gradual decline down Pen-y-ghent and across to Wherneside. A longer than anticipated stretch which started to put pressure on our feet. A short stop at the bottom of Wherneside revealed blisters and sores for some. None the less, with a great team spirit and sheer determination, we set on our way at 12:40pm to complete the second of the three peaks. Reaching summit at approximately 1:45pm our adrenaline began to kick in as there was only one peak remaining.

We continued on through the pain as the steep decline down Wherneside hit hard on the feet and knees. A long walk to the bottom of Ingleborough was filled with positive vibes and amazing team morale as we all worked together knowing we had made it past half way.The final climb was certainly a tough one! The steep incline was near impossible on tired legs! The adrenaline to reach the final peak was all that kept us going. We finally summited Ingleborough at approximately 4:45pm, and WOW how amazing it felt!

With pride in our strides, we all felt invincible as we set off down the final peak. Although nothing could have prepared us for the long and never-ending 5 mile stretch back. We all reached the end of the Three Peaks between 5:30pm and 7:00pm and the feeling of relief, satisfaction and pure achievement was incredible! WE DID IT!

We couldn’t have done it without the amazing team work, but also the incredible generosity of so many people who donated. Our determination to complete all Three Peaks for two amazing charities was what kept us going!
