Housing developer Redrow began construction work this month on the 330 homes planned for the Clariant works in Horsforth. Planning permission was granted in April last year. It was met with resistance, with opponents of the scheme warning of a devastating impact on services and increased traffic.
Taking the concerns on board, Redrow will be investing heavily in the community, including £1.76m for public transport, footpath and highways works, education, improvements to sports fields and pavillion, and the creation of a new play area and allotments. The intention is to benefit not just the buyers of the new homes, but the wider neighbourhood as well.
They also argue that the local economy will benefit, as industry statistics show that 1.5 full time jobs are created for every home built, not including jobs in the supply chain.
Horsforth Vale – the name chosen for the development – will include homes ranging from two-bedroomed to fived bedroomed houses, the first of which are hoped to be available by Easter.
