The Javelin Group, a retail consultancy, have revealed the results of their annual ranking of the UK’s top 3,000 retail venues. Leeds has been a steady climber in recent years, and has again moved up a spot. Besides London, only Glasgow and Manchester can now boast a more impressive retail experience than Leeds.
Strengthened by the arrival of Trinity Leeds, consisting of eight shopping centres and over 1,000 stores, in addition to the Victoria Quarter, The Core, and a refurbished Merrion Centre, Leeds has grown into a retail powerhouse that rivals the best the UK has to offer.
The Victoria Gate shopping centre is still nothing but dirt, bulldozers, and giant drills, but when completed, it will be yet another feather in Leeds’ retail cap, which will then be so impressive, even peacocks will be jealous.
Leeds has come a very long way in a short time, with £2.7bn spent on major development schemes in the city over the last ten years, with an additional £178m of schemes still under construction at the start of 2014.
Additionally, Trinity Leeds was recently voted onto the prestigious CoolBrands list by a panel of designers and fashion experts, as well as actors, musicians, DJ’s and TV presenters.
