Leeds City Council picked up the Local Authority of the Year award at last night’s Yorkshire Property Industry Awards for their overseeing of a remarkable 12 months in which more than £500m of developments were completed. The judges said, “The council have been incredible in what they’ve done and continue to do. They have really elevated the city.”
Leeds Trinity deservingly bagged Development of the Year. The £350m scheme was praised for its design and visitor appeal, but also for its transformational impact that has really marked Leeds as a top retail destination. The developer, Land Securities, scooped Commercial Developer of the Year.
Yorkshire Building Society won the Commercial Property Deal of the Year for netting 80,000 sq ft of space at Broad Gate in Leeds. It was the largest single office transaction in Leeds since 2004, and proved to investors that Leeds means business.
For Design Excellence, First Direct Arena had to win. It was described by judges as an “engineering marvel” and was praised for its “dramatic structure”. It was also recognised for the positive impact it has already had on the city.
The awards were held at the New Dock Hall, Royal Armouries, Leeds.
