Leeds is home to a thriving digital industry and a strong digital talent pool, which made it a natural choice for Channel 4 when they were looking for a new home for their Headquarters.
Competition was fierce for this high-profile relocation and Leeds went up against 6 other cities in a highly publicized competitive pitch process before being awarded the win at the back end of last year.
It’s a huge win for Leeds as a whole and in particular the creative sector. As part of the campaign, over 50 creative agencies in Leeds came together to collaborate in the “All In. Leeds” campaign, which focused on showcasing the creativity of the region in an effort encourage Channel 4 to choose Leeds.
The new Channel 4 Headquarters will bring with it an estimated 300 new jobs and its decision signals real confidence in the future of the city.
But it’s not just the creative industries. By 2020, HMRC will have opened its doors to a new high-tech Government Hub in offices located in the city centre on Wellington Place. The deal, cited as the biggest commercial property letting in Leeds, will see 6000 civil servants moving into the city.
Leeds is the UK’s fastest growing city with a population of 3 million and a workforce of 1.37 million. That’s a lot of people looking for homes and, looking ahead, we expect to see continued strength in the rental market within the city.
