Trust the process

‘HOP’ is short for ‘Home of Property’. Some returning students and their families may remember us as ‘Let Leeds’. But in the summer of 2020, we decided to change our name to more accurately reflect the variety of services we offer. One thing has not changed, however: our 9-step process for placing the right student in the right student accommodation. That 9-step process has been developed and refined over more than a decade and combines our vast online database with personal interaction with our experienced, friendly, market savvy letting agents. It is the most efficient, effective way available to ensure fast, appropriate placement of young people into the property they’ll call home during their studies.

all inclusive student accommodation in woodhouse

Simplify Things by Going “All-Inclusive”

As if keeping track of all their school-related responsibilities is not enough, having to make sure they pay the rent, electricity, and other bills in full and on time just adds to the weight on a young person’s shoulders. Our “all-inclusive” option is the perfect antidote to that problem. With our all-inclusive properties, every cost related to the rental is bundled together in one simple monthly payment. It’s a hassle-free, student-friendly way to make sure a young person doesn’t undermine their credit score early in life by getting behind or missing payments. If there is more than one student in the house or flat, the all-inclusive plan can also help keep the peace by preventing haggling over who owes what.

Things to Remember on Move-In Day

Things to Remember on Move-In Day

Once you’ve got your place at university and the first term begins, you’ll no doubt be excited to start your new life in Leeds, and in your student housing. But before you dive headfirst into Fresher’s Week, though, there are a few things you really need to consider. Especially on move-in day.

  1. Your first task is to collect your keys from our HOP office. Don’t worry – our staff won’t bite! Remember to bring your ID with you, though, as we will give all the keys to one nominated tenant – we’d highly recommend testing to make sure they all work before handing them out
  2. Once you’ve got your keys, we’ll give you a photo inventory of everything in the property. This is where you might be tempted to cast it aside and forget about it. Don’t do this. It’s important that the inventory is accurate and that nothing is broken or missing
  3. Now we need to talk about appliances. Yes – you are responsible for your fridges, washing machines, tumble dryers and any other white goods in the house. Test them all as soon as you can, to make sure they work, as you have 14 days to report any faults before you become responsible for their condition
Remembering Your Responsibilities

Remembering Your Responsibilities

Moving into your Woodhouse student accommodation is likely to be one of the most exciting times of your life. As it should be. Freedom as last! But, with great power (and freedom) comes great responsibility. You do need to look after your accommodation whilst you’re studying at university – not only to make sure it’s a nice place for everyone to live but also to save yourself a big bill when you move elsewhere.

Here are a few things we advise you to keep on top of:

  • Replacing light bulbs – try to opt for energy-efficient ones too!
  • Bleeding your radiators regularly (it will make them work better)
  • Keeping sink and plugholes clear of anything that could block them up
  • Regularly testing smoke alarms and replacing batteries as needed
  • Keeping your outside drains clear of leaves and rubbish
  • Keeping your windows open, when possible and appropriate, to ventilate the property
Keeping Your Property Clean

Keeping Your Property Clean

It’s important to keep your student accommodation clean! Here are a few things we suggest you do to keep it in good condition, and ensure you get your full deposit back:

  • Hoover up! Yes, it really is this simple – once a week should do it!
  • Clean the cooker after use and don’t let fat and grease build up in there
  • Clean out your fridge once a week – don’t let old leftovers rot away in there
  • Clean your bathrooms, especially tiles, to prevent mould
  • Act quickly if you spill anything on carpets or upholstery
