1. Arguably the numero uno pro for living in Leeds city centre is the fact that you’ll be living close to where you work. Getting up and going to work will be easy, as you can just walk or cycle to your destination in mere minutes. The commuting time is nothing compared to those living in the ‘burbs. Plus, you won’t need to spend money on public transport. The city centre is quite compact, with the shopping quarter, civic quarter, cultural quarter, financial quarter, and skyscraper quarter all within reasonable walking distance of one another.
2. I love the smell of commerce in the morning! Whether you’re on The Headrow, Briggate, Vicar Lane, in one of the state-of-the-art shopping centres, the Corn Exchange, the Victorian arcades, you are surrounded by over a thousand shops! Renting professional accommodation in Leeds city centre is pretty much a shopaholic’s dream come true. Never feel guilty about a splurge; just tell yourself you’re stimulating the economy!
3. Lots of young singletons. I hope I don’t have to spell out why this is a good thing.
4. Leeds city centre is teeming with culture. On Quarry Hill alone you will find Northern Ballet, Phoenix Dance Theatre, BBC Yorkshire, Leeds College of Music, the West Yorkshire Playhouse, and Yorkshire Dance. Then there’s Opera North, the Royal Armouries, the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds city museum, and Leeds art gallery. Pretty outstanding, no?
5. Leeds Train Station is the 6th largest outside of London. It’ll get you all over the country. The property to rent in Leeds city centre would be advantageous to those who need to commute to Bradford, Manchester, or any of our northern neighbours.
6. Houses to rent in Leeds city centre are indeed more expensive, but you can save money because you can just go home to have lunch instead of having to eat out. Just because you’re a high-flying city-slicker doesn’t mean you can’t look after the pennies.
7. Having said that, some days when you get home from work, you’re absolutely starving but you just don’t have the will to cook. Not a problem. Step outside your professional accommodation in Leeds city centre and you are greeted by upwards of 90 restaurants and cafés. If that’s too much effort, don’t worry, there are so many takeaways in Leeds that you could probably eat fast-food from a different outlet every day for the rest of your life and never use the same one twice (that is, of course, factoring in reduced life expectancy resulting from such an experiment).
8. There are literally hundreds of bars and pubs rammed into Leeds city centre. They’re a great place to meet with friends and make some new friends, party like a nutter, or have a meal and a quiet drink. Whatever you want from a watering hole, be it a traditional pub or a trendy bar, Leeds city centre will have something that caters to your tastes. And the best thing about property to rent in Leeds city centre in this regard? Not far to get home after a hedonistic night of over-indulgence. If you’re a student, you may like to refer to our guide to the top 10 student bars.
9. Leeds has a reputation as being one of the UK’s favourite clubbing destinations, often described as being the leading clubbing city outside of London. There are dozens of clubs playing a variety of musical styles; there’s one to suit any mood. Whether you’re an insomniac looking to while away the hours until daylight or just out to bounce around for a couple of hours, Leeds city centre’s clubs have your night sorted.
10. Events such as the World Curry Festival and the Leeds International Film Festival are easily accessible, and as there’s always something going on in the city centre, there’s always something to do. It’s probably a bit of a stretch to say that renting professional property in Leeds city centre means that you will never be bored, but to be fair, you’ll not be able to honestly claim that’s there’s nothing to do.
These are the pros. If, on balance, they outweigh the cons, then you should definitely consider the idea. City centre living certainly isn’t for everyone, but if this list excites you, I think it very well could be for you.
