With their current location on East Parade, opposite Greek Street, no longer viable, both electronic music haven The Garage and bespoke karaoke bar OK Karaoke have been forced to close down. Owner Steve Hawkins said that the business was unable to agree new terms with the landlord.
The opening of Trinity Leeds has apparently hit the area quite hard. Hawkins said, “Greek Street is really struggling. This area needs investment and has struggled since the opening of Trinity.”
It is a shame that The Garage should have to close after barely 18 months of partying, in which time it still managed to pick up the Best Small Club award from DJ Mag. But the good news is that a new venue has already been found and could be up and running by Christmas, with all the same promotions.
OK Karaoke, the first bespoke karaoke bar outside of London, is still on the lookout for a new home, but is hoped to be back before the new year.
